About Gray Elementary

W.O. Gray Elementary School opened its doors to the children of Balch Springs, Texas on August 11, 1999. The school is named after Wilmer Osar Gray, affectionately known as “Professor Gray.” He was an educator with MISD from 1946 until his retirement in 1970. Throughout his life, he encouraged everyone he met to pursue an education.

Gray Elementary currently serves more than 380 Pre-K through fifth-grade students and is led by an outstanding faculty consisting of 35 highly qualified teachers.

Our school is dedicated to meeting the needs of students through special programs. These programs include an SEL room, collaboration room, outdoor learning space, outdoor adventures, camping trips, bicycles for PE, a 3D printer, makerspace equipment and materials, and virtual reality goggles. The funding for these programs came through a series of grants from the Mesquite Education Foundation and various area organizations.

HB3 Board Goals

HB3 requires school boards to adopt detailed plans developed by their management teams that achieve goals in two key areas:

  1. Early childhood literacy and mathematics (EC-LM ) proficiency
  2. College, career, and military readiness (CCMR)

School boards must review the progress of each plan at least annually at a public meeting. These goals will be posted on the district website for the district level goals and on each campus website for the campus level goals once approved. The Board of Trustees approved these goals at the May 9, 2022, meeting. To view a downloadable, printable document containing these goals, click on the following button.
